Boy Scout Leadership Reject Founding Values
Move toward death spiral
In a move telegraphed in a speech by Boy Scout President Robert Gates, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) voted to eliminate the ban on open homosexual and bisexual adult leaders. The full board will vote on the change later this month. Instead of leaving the final decision up to the volunteer delegates, the board decided to cut out the volunteer delegates who were likely to reject the change. The new policy will allow each unit to decide on the standards for their adult leaders.
When the issue of open homosexuality was first debated in 2012, the majority of BSA members voted to keep the ban in place. At that time, BSA stated that there would be no further action on the issue. Due to pressure from corporate America, radical homosexual organizations, the President and the Attorney General, the leadership of the BSA hatched a unethical scheme to change the standards. They packed the delegates with 400 board supporters and held another vote in 2013 to allow open homosexual boys to join with no change to the ban on adult leaders. The vote margin with the additional 400 delegates were enough to change the policy. At that time the leadership claimed their would be no further changes to the policy.
The board under the leadership of former Defense Secretary Robert Gates decided to bypass the delegates and unilaterally change the policy on adult leadership. Robert Gates is a dishonorable person without character. His claim that the ban is no longer sustainable really applies to the change in policy for the boys and adult leadership. As 70% plus of the membership is made up of churches, the policy changes are unsustainable for the BSA’s survival. The first change caused thousands of boys and their parents to leave. The final change will cause thousands more to abandon the Scouts. Rest in peace, Boyscouts of America 1912-2013.
We would encourage all Boy Scouts to Join Trail Life USA which is a National Scouting organization with traditional values. For more information, go to
