Destructing the Constitution

President unilaterally changes Immigration law

The President has called on Congress to fix a "broken" immigration system by passing the Senate version of immigration reform. The Senate bill is nothing more of a remake of the failed Republican Senate bill from 2006 which was repackaged under the Democrat brand. The proposed legislation is a massive amnesty that would grant legal status with a "pathway" to citizenship for tens of millions of illegal aliens and their families. After being fooled in 1986 with the last amnesty that promised enforcement, Americans lobbied Congress to block the current Senate bill. Americans again said a resounding NO to the President's policies this past November. Even so, the President announced with great fanfare on November 20th that he was going to use "prosecutorial discretion to provide legal status to millions of illegal aliens contrary to federal law, the separation of powers and the most importantly the constitution.

As it has been reported, the President has acknowledged at least twenty two times that he does not have the power to change immigration law. His comments include;  "Well, I think it is important to remind everybody that, as I said I think previously, and I’m not a king. I am the head of the executive branch of government. I’m required to follow the law." "I’m the president of the United States. I’m not the emperor of the United States. My job is to execute laws that are passed, and Congress right now has not changed what I consider to be a broken immigration system." Yet in a blantant case of hypocricy, he is now claiming that the action he is taking is similiar to the actions of previous presidents such as Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush, however both were implementing laws ultimately passed by Congress and both were on a much smaller scale. But in a moment of truth, he acknowledged that he changed the law while addressing a group of immigration amnesty activists in Chicago, "There have been significant numbers of deportations. That's true. But what you're not paying attention to is the fact that I just took action to change the law." The fact that he is also prepared to issue millions of work visas is without question beyond his power as President and without precedent.

It is estimated that between 4-5 million illegal aliens will qualify under his unlawful action. Under current federal law and based on his prior directive for deferred action for those who came to the United States as juveniles, those who are deemed lawfully in the country can qualify for social security, Medicare, the income earned tax credit, driver licenses, tuition aid and other state benefits. There is a question as to whether they can qualify for Obamacare, however illegals have been encouraged to apply by the federal government and were found to be receiving healthcare coverage. As he has done so fourty two times before, the President can change the qualifications for Obamacare. The costs are stagering. By allowing illegal aliens to compete with Americans for jobs, both citizens and legal residents will further suffer economically in a stagnant economy. The lure of legalization and free benefits will encourage millions more to cross illegally in the United states or overstay their visas. This was apparent with the recent wave of illegal children. The question is who will stop this President when he is willing to disregard the constitution, Congress and the American people? If the President believes he can act with impunity and legislate at will, what other laws is he willing to change?

If the President was actually serious about addressing our broken immigration system, he would take lawful executive action such as implementing EVerify which checks the legal status of those seeking employment. He can expedite the removal of criminal aliens instead of releasing and expanding the pool of illegals who can stay with certain criminal convictions. He can complete the border fense and work to target visa overstays by implementing the visa entry/exit system. He can require once again that those who immigrate to the United States have the means to support themselves and their families. He can direct his Sectretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson to allow Immigration & Custom Enforcement agents to once again engage in interior enforcement directed at those that hire illegal aliens, those who provide sanctuary and those who are the subject of deportation orders. He can do the obvious, enforce the current immigration laws that are on the books but that is unlikely. The truth is reflected in the Obama Doctrine which applies to transforming America to his vision; "by any means necessary".

The hype about a broken immigration system has no basis in fact.. The only thing broken is the President's oath and his ethical obligation to support and defend the constitution and laws of the United States of America. In our modern time, there has never been such a clear and present danger to our liberty and our Republic. When a President is willing to act like a King and issue edicts without challenge, no one is immune. The pathway is one to tyranny and a destructing of the Constitution. The question is will the American people allow it to happen? God save our Republic.
