Just words, just speeches

The unraveling of the Obama Administration

This past election made history not only by electing America's first black President, America unwittingly elected the most radical extremist to ever hold the presidency. Those who voted for change and hope believed in a man who promised great things and packaged himself as a leader who can translate his eloquent speeches into action.  He promised to restore the American dream, "I am running for president, because the dreams of the American People can not be endangered anymore." Upon his election as President, he declared, "change has come to America". It was not the change Americans were seeking.

Economic Policy

In September 2008, the financial markets began a rapid decline and major corporations were teetering on bankruptcy fueled by the collapse of the housing market. The DOW dropped to a ten year low to below 7000. The Bush administration set off the alarm and asked for swift action on a bank bailout bill called TARP, the Troubled Asset Relief Program. This legislation at the time was one of the largest spending bills in American history at $700 Billion dollars. The cited reason for the bill was to unfreeze the credit markets. The legislation was intended to inject liquidity into the markets by allowing other banks to purchase smaller banks and to purchase "toxic mortgages". More then $350 Billion was spent by the close of 2008 with another $350 billion available to the incoming Obama administration. The logic behind the bailout was that certain financial institutions were "too big to fail". Instead of following a well thought out plan, the government just spent the money. While some banks have successfully repaid their TARP loans earning taxpayers a profit, the ultimate result will be huge losses. Both General Motors and Chrysler who were recipients of taxpayer funds filed for bankruptcy. Taxpayers stand to lose $400 billion in propping up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac according to a report from the Bloomberg Press.

In January, the new Obama administration met with his economic team and decided that a stimulus was needed to jump start the economy. The President declared, "The most important message is that the situation is getting worse. We've got to act boldly and we've got to act swiftly." He went on to say, "We're already looking at a trillion-dollar budget deficit or close to a trillion-dollar budget deficit, and that potentially we've got trillion-dollar deficits for years to come, even with the economic recovery that we are working on at this point,". He made it clear that he would not accept "earmarks" or "pork", the practice of allocating taxpayer funds for pet projects of congressional members; "The package will set a "new higher standard of accountability, transparency and oversight. We are going to ban all earmarks, the process by which individual members insert projects without review," Obama said. "We're not having earmarks in the recovery package. Period."

The $787 Billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act or stimulus II passed by congress and signed into law by President Obama has had a minimal effect on the economy considering our current 10% rate of unemployment. The Obama economic plan is to spend our way out of a recession. In the long run, it will be detrimental. An analysis by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) indicated that while the stimulus will have some benefits in the first year or two, it will cause serious consequences to the economy in the long run in terms of debt, liquidity and will have the effect of nationalizing the economy. The CBO estimated that the total cost of the bill over 10 years to be 3.27 trillion; $2.527 trillion in spending and $744 billion in debt service. The choking off of capital will prevent the expansion of the private sector which produces more then 75% of the jobs. With the massive growth in government programs, the entanglement of public and private funds, America will begin a death spiral toward socialism similar to Europe. It can be best described as eating a lot of sugar which is a carbohydrate. It will give you a lot to energy in the short term but will in the long run lead to  health problems.

The idea of a stimulus is to give a quick injection of spending into the economy. Several mechanisms have worked; tax cuts, new spending on infrastructure projects, defense spending, etc. During the last administration, two stimulus bills were enacted which delivered actual cash rebates to the middle class. Both stimulated the economy. A combination of the two would be appropriate, however the focus of the stimulus legislation was clear; new government spending on pork programs unrelated to stimulating the economy. Its more consistent with consumption spending. The only product will be more debt and larger entitlement programs. The one area in particular is welfare spending which is scheduled to grow by 200%. The legislation actually eliminated the caps on welfare thus repealing the key elements of welfare reform passed during the Clinton administration.

After signing the stimulus bill, congress began work on the remaining appropriation bills for fiscal year 2009. Normally the outgoing President's budget would apply, however the majority party sensing a victory in the 2008 Presidential race passed several continuing resolutions to fund the government until the outcome of the election. The $410 billion dollar omnibus spending bill contained 8,570 earmarks at a cost of $7.7 billion according to Taxpayers for Common Sense. They estimated that 60% of the earmarks were from Democrats and 40% were from Republicans. The President declined to issue a veto and signed the bill. During the same month, the President announced a $275 billion dollar bailout for  homeowners who are unable to pay their mortgages. The plan calls for $200 billion dollars to refinance loans through Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac and  $75 billion to encourage lenders to modify loans.

For his first budget, the President proposed a record shattering 3.6 trillion dollar budget with record spending increases. Even with one Trillion in new taxes to pay for higher spending, his budget quadruples the federal deficit to 1.8 Trillion dollars. The budget calls for 10% spending increases and again contains 3.9 billion for 5000 earmarks. With this budget, the President has set an American record in terms of spending. He has spent the most in his first term then any other American President and has actually increased spending by a whopping 100% compared to the first year of the Bush administration (G.W.). For fiscal year 2009, the federal government spent 3.52 trillion. Even with the distinction of having the highest spending record in history, the President has called for additional spending upwards of $150 billion to further stimulate the economy. The President acknowledged that part of his economic plan was to "spend our way out of this recession". He then went on to say, "We have a structural deficit," "So here's what we're going to have to do. I've been very clear -- and this will be reflected in my budget and my State of the Union address next year -- that trying to either raise taxes or cut spending next year would be the wrong thing to do for an economy that's still coming out of a recession and is still very fragile." Without spending cuts, the federal debt will continue to climb. The current federal debt is 12.3 trillion dollars and is expected to increase by 2 trillion dollars by the end of fiscal year 2010.

Health Care

Most Americans would agree that our healthcare system needs reform, however the Obama plan would fundamentally change the very way health care is delivered. After passage of the Senate's version of the bill on Christmas Eve, the bill now goes to a House-Senate Committee which will reconcile both versions of the bill and forward a final bill to the President for his signature. Even though voters have made it clear through the TEA Parties, town hall meetings and by polling, the administration and congress are moving full steam ahead to pass the measure. The House version contains a public health care option, the Senate version would provide taxpayer funds for abortions and neither bill outright bans illegal aliens from obtaining medical coverage.

Both bills would cut Medicare by $500 billion dollars, would add $400 billion in new taxes, and require all Americans to purchase healthcare or face fines and or possible jail time. The cost to extend health care is estimated to be $871 billion dollars, however the bill is front loaded so many of the costs will accumulate after 10 years making an accurate estimate difficult. According to an analysis by the Heritage Foundation, Seniors would pay an additional 17% in taxes and small business owners would pay a staggering 54%. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found that health care premiums would rise by 10-13% under the bill.

Unknown to most Americans is that the mechanism to review and approve medical procedures called for in the healthcare bill has already been enacted. The panel, the Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research was created and funded with more then 1.1 billion dollars under the stimulus bill, the Recovery and Reinvestment Act. One of the panel members is Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel  who believes that the allocation of healthcare should be based on age, "Unlike allocation by sex or race, allocation by age is not invidious discrimination; every person lives through different life stages rather than being a single age. Even if 25-year-olds receive priority over 65-year-olds, everyone who is 65 years now was previously 25 years." If healthcare is extended to 30 million more people, Medicare is cut by $500 billion, stringent cost containment provisions are enacted and one's age is taken into consideration, not only will healthcare be rationed, the ultimate outcome will be a death sentence if you get sick and are 65 years old or older. This appears to meet the definition of a death panel.

National Security

Since assuming the office of President, Mr. Obama has quickly moved to change our approach to terrorism. He issued an executive order halting military tribunals, ordered the closure of the prison on Guantanamo Bay, and banned extreme interrogation techniques such as water boarding which he characterized as torture. Even though the 911 Commission produced a comprehensive report detailing how our government failed to protect its citizens, this administration has disregarded it's findings by once again treating terrorism as a law enforcement issue. Going to the extreme, this administration actually requires enemies caught on the battlefield to receive "Miranda warnings" by FBI agents.

The President has laid the groundwork for a return to the pre-911 approach to terrorism by embracing political correctness which denies that there is a systematic and well funded network of Islamic Fascists that are hell bent on killing Americans, giving unlawful enemy combatants the same constitutional rights as citizens by trying them in American courts, and preventing intelligence sharing between agencies. Those who perpetrate terrorism meet the definition of war criminals who commit crimes against humanity and thus deserve to be tried by military tribunals.

Even though Congress has prohibited the transfer of Gitmo detainees to the United States, an administration official leaked details of the Obama administration's plan to acquire a state prison in Illinois and move at least 100 Gitmo detainees to the prison. The plan calls for their cases to be resolved by Military Tribunals, however consistent with several controlling Supreme Court decisions, it remains questionable whether military tribunals remain a viable option when the detainees are tried on US soil. It is likely that they will be afforded constitutional protections unlike what they are entitled to as unlawful enemy combatants tried on foreign soil. So why open up a legal Pandora's box?  Unfortunately, the President is unable or unwilling to acknowledge the difference between domestic criminals and the rules of war. This is evident in his ill advised attempt to try the five detainees who master minded the 911 attacks in US Courts even though all have agreed to plead guilty before military tribunals and accept the death penalty. Considering their legal status, the circumstances upon which they were captured; on the battle field and the President's declaration that they were tortured along with his prejudicial remarks as to their guilt, what will he do if they are found "not guilty"? Hopefully Congress will intervene.

During the Bush Administration, there were no successful terror attacks post 911, however there have been several under the Obama administration. In Arkansas this past May, a Muslim convert targeted a military recruiting center shooting two soldiers killing one and wounding the other. In Fort Hood, an American born Muslim, U.S. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan murdered 13 and wounded 32. On Christmas day, Nigerian Muslim Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab smuggled a bomb aboard a Northwest passenger flight headed to Detroit from Amsterdam. Fortunately, the bomb failed to detonate. Major Hasan attended Dar Al-Hijrah mosque in Falls Church, Virginia at the same time as two of the 911 hijackers. The Mosque's Imam, Anwar al Awlaki fled to Yemen and trained Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. He also praised the Fort Hood attack. The lessons of 911 should not be ignored. Hopefully this latest incident will persuade the administration that the only approach to terror is to declare war on those who want to kill us.

Energy Policy

The debate over global warming has been raging for more then a decade. The premise consists of the belief that the world's temperature is warming and is tied to human activity, notably the burning of fossil fuels. The President supports Cap and Trade which is a plan to cap the level of carbon emissions. The scheme calls for the issuance of permits to business and industry to emit carbon. Companies are allowed a specified number of credits. If they exceed their allotted amount, they can enter a market system to purchase additional credits from businesses that stay below their cap. Government can then also penalize business for exceeding their allowance with fines. In 1997, the Kyoto Accord established a international cap and trade system, however the Senate rejected the treaty as the cost of energy would skyrocket and would irreparably harm the U.S. economy. Furthermore, China and India were allowed to circumvent emission caps. Russia also rejected the treaty on similar grounds.

Recently e-mails were uncovered that called into question the integrity of global warming research and the possibility that much of the research was doctored. Even so, the Obama Administration has threatened to use the Environmental Protection Agency's regulatory powers to regulate carbon emissions if Congress fails to approve a cap and trade regime. One has to wonder if Congress has given up it's role as a check and balance on the executive branch. In a move not helpful to the struggling American auto industry, the President has allowed states like California to set their own vehicle emission standards.

This past June, the House passed Cap and Trade legislation by one vote. The bill calls for limits on carbon emissions from power plants, factories, oil refineries and other sources. The bill requires the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 17% in 2020 and 83% in 2050. Both supporters and opponents of the bill acknowledge that energy costs will increase. "Under my plan of a cap and trade system electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Businesses would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that cost onto consumers."  Barack Obama (January 17, 2008).  Even though the President left Copenhagen without an agreement, he has pledge to provide $100 billion to under-developed nations in the fight against "global warming".

During the presidential campaign, Mr. Obama rejected increased oil exploration but then changed his position. Once elected President, he has issued executive orders that once again prohibit increase drilling. When he expressed concern for rising gasoline prices, he was not alarmed at the amount of the increase only the fact that prices rose so quickly.

Marriage and Gender

In Obama’s convention speech, he addressed four specific social issues; homosexual marriage, gun control, illegal immigration and abortion. After reviewing his campaign & governmental website, public statements and actions as President, it is quite apparent that he is on the political fringe. Most telling during the presidential campaign was his support of school curriculum exposing six years olds to homosexuality by reading the book, "King and King", a story about a male Prince who runs away with the male King.

The President while claiming to oppose homosexual marriage, is spearheading the effort to help legalize it. He has promised to repeal the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which prohibits the federal government from granting legal recognition to homosexual marriages and allows states to refuse to recognize these marriages. In 2004 he referred to it as an "abhorrent law". When the California Supreme Court legalized homosexual marriage against the wishes of the voters, he declared, "I want to congratulate all of you who have shown your love for each other by getting married these last few weeks,"  Yet he made it clear that he opposes any effort to limit gay marriage, "And that is why I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states," He utilized his power to issue executive orders to allow homosexual couples to use the other's last name on their passports (contrary to DOMA), has recently signed a bill granting  healthcare benefits to homosexual couples who are federal employees and for the first time in American history has directed the U.S. Census Bureau to count homosexual married couples. Recently Washington D.C voted to legalize gay marriage, however Congress has 30 days to review the decision and has the power to over turn it. It is unlikely that the President will intervene.

The President has promised to repeal the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy which allows homosexuals to serve in the military as long as they keep their conduct private. Mr. Obama believes that open homosexuality in the ranks would not harm unit cohesiveness or morale. Using this argument, co-ed dorms in the military should be allowed. He has also called for passage of ENDA, the Employment Non Discrimination Act which would include all orientations on the gender continuum. He has issued an executive order banning "discrimination" based on gender identity or gender expression by federal agencies. One outcome of the order will be to establish a legal basis for men who feel like women to use the women's bathroom even if they are dressed as a biological male.

One action in particular validates his extremism well outside the mainstream of American politics, his appointment of Kevin Jennings as "School Safety" Czar. Mr. Jennings is the Founder and Executive Director of GLESEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) which seeks to promote homosexuality in public schools. Mr. Jennings was caught on audio tape discussing his effort to encourage a 15 year old boy to  continue a sexual relationship with an "older man" he met in a "bus station bathroom". The audio tape is from Mr. Jennings  appearance before the Iowa Chapter of GLESEN in 2000. Mr. Jennings who was a teacher at the time not only encouraged the sexual relationship to continue, failed to report it to authorities. His organization, GLESEN sponsored an AIDS prevention workshop where state employees discussed graphic homosexual sexual practices with children as young as twelve and thirteen year olds. The group also encourages the use of books that reference explicit sex acts with children as young as preschoolers.

Mr. Jennings claimed that he was "inspired" by Henry Hay; “one of the people that always inspired me is Harry Hay.” Mr. Hay who was a member of the communist party strongly advocated pedophilia and promoted the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA). During a 1983 New York University forum sponsored by a gay campus organization, Mr. Hay stated the following; "I also would like to say at this point that it seems to me that in the gay community the people who should be running interference for NAMBLA are the parents and friends of gays. Because if the parents and friends of gays are truly friends of gays, they would know from their gay kids that the relationship with an older man is precisely what thirteen-, fourteen-, and fifteen-year-old kids need more than anything else in the world. And they would be welcoming this, and welcoming the opportunity for young gay kids to have the kind of experience that they would need." Apparently this doesn't concern Mr. Obama as Jennings was not fired.

Mr. Obama has resorted to the appointment of "Czars" as many of his appointments are outside the mainstream and would be rejected during Senate confirmation hearings. Senator Robert Byrd (D-W. Virginia) was so alarmed, he sent the President a letter stating, "The rapid and easy accumulation of power by White House staff can threaten the constitutional system of checks and balances." Norman J. Ornstein, resident scholar for the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research noted, "Anybody who has real policy making power that goes beyond giving advice to the president ought to have Senate confirmation,"

One of his Czars was actually forced to resign. Van Jones a self described communist was given the title, "Special Advisor on Green Jobs". Mr. Jones explained his transformation, "I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th [1992], and then the verdicts came down on April 29th. By August, I was a communist. (...)   "I met all these young radical people of color – I mean really radical: communists and anarchists. And it was, like, 'This is what I need to be a part of.' I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary." Mr. Jones also co-founded STORM (Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement) which espoused Marxist ideology. Once it was disclosed that his name appeared on a petition for 911Truth.org which claimed that 911 was a conspiracy by the U.S. government, he resigned.

Energy Czar Carol Browner was a former member of Socialist International and was implicated in the destruction of federal records while serving in the Clinton Administration. She has been an aggressive advocate for the Cap and Tax bill which will vastly increase the cost of Energy. Science Czar John Holdren expressed support for forced abortions. In the book, "Ecoscience: Population, Resources, and Environment which he co-authored, the following statement is found, “population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution.”

The radicalism does not stop with his appointment of Czars. The President appointed Georgetown University Law Center professor Chai Feldblum as a Commissioner for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Ms. Feldblum who can be described as a lesbian activist, has endorsed the concept of polygamy by signing a July 26, 2006 manifesto “Beyond Same-Sex Marriage: A New Strategic Vision for All Our Families & Relationships.” The manifesto seeks a new vision for America by “move[ing] beyond the narrow confines of marriage politics” in terms of recognition of  “diverse kinds” of partnerships, households and families including “committed, loving households in which there is more than one conjugal partner.” She has expressed the opinion that traditional marriage should not be privileged “above all others.” It is her view that acceptance of sexuality trumps religious liberty.

Abortion

Even though abortion has been a fault line in the arena of public policy, most politicians who are pro-choice support reasonable restrictions consistent with Roe v. Wade. Mr. Obama is ideologically on the extreme end of the spectrum. So extreme in fact that he opposed a ban on partial birth abortion which Senator Daniel P. Moynihan (D-NY) referred to as infanticide. During the presidential race, he indicated that he wanted to reduce the number of abortions, then after intense controversy acknowledged his opposition to the Born Alive Infant Protection Act while in the Illinois State Senate. The bill was in response to several instances of botched abortions resulting in live births. Mr. Obama indicated that he opposed the initial bill as it defined the fetus as a person and could have been interpreted to encompass all abortions regardless on the viability of the fetus thus effecting Roe v. Wade. A second bill was drafted that limited the scope of the legislation to that of a fetus born alive. During the interim between both bills, a federal bill with the same language as the second Illinois state bill was passed without opposition in the U.S. House and Senate then signed by President Bush in 2002. In 2003, Mr. Obama voted against the second Illinois bill. He has opposed the partial birth abortion ban by essentially supporting an extremely broad health provision which would have included psychological health. The Supreme Court upheld the ban with a more restrictive health exception repudiating his argument.

If there was any doubt to his radical support for infanticide, he has promised as one of his first legislative actions as President to pass and sign the 2007 Freedom of Choice Act (which he co-sponsored in the Senate) which would codify Roe v. Wade. The legislation would over turn all state restrictions on abortions including such measures as parental notification. As Senator, he has voted against legislation that would prohibit the transportation of minors across state lines for abortion and parental notification. Currently, the bill has not passed either house.

Immigration

One of the most contentious issues in American politics is the issue of illegal immigration. The majority of Americans support legal immigration and control of our borders. They respect the rule of law and our rich American history and culture created by immigrants. President Obama has been a supporter of Amnesty and has limited enforcement efforts both internally and on the borders of the United States. This administration like the Bush Administration before it just doesn't get it, Americans reject amnesty.

On December 15th, Representative Gutierrez (D-Ill) introduced a bill that would grant amnesty to 11-18 million illegal aliens and gut all enforcement provisions. The legislation actually nullifies all state legislation that is related to enforcement. The bill also includes two other amnesties, the Ag-JOBS bill that grants amnesty to farm workers and the DREAM Act which grants amnesty to illegal aliens who graduated from high school and who want to attend college. Considering that there are over 20 million Americans out of work, why would any reasonable elected official seek to legalize millions who will compete with American citizens and legal residents for jobs? As noted previously, illegal aliens are not prohibited from receiving healthcare (beyond emergency care) in the pending healthcare bill.

In response to the 911 Commission's report, Congress passed the Real ID Act which requires states to verify the identity of those who are granted driver licenses. As the driver license is the primary identity document in the United States and is one that is used to establish and obtain other critical identity documents, the process to obtain a license must be uniform and rigorous. The failure to maintain such a system of validation resulted in several 911 terrorists who were also in the United States illegally obtaining driver licenses and access to transportation infrastructure which helped facilitate the success of the 911 attacks. By December 31, all 50 states were to have been in compliance with the Real ID Act, however Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano gave Washington, Hawaii, Utah and New Mexico an extension of sixteen plus months. Considering that nine years and four months have passed since 911, how much more time is necessary? This move is consistent with the President's position in favor of granting driver licenses to illegal aliens during his debate with Hillary Clinton while running for President. There are now calls in congress to repeal the Real ID Act even though forty six states and American territories are currently in compliance.

In one of his more egregious acts, the President moved the Census Bureau from the control of the Commerce Department to the White house politicizing the non-partisan work of the bureau. Its function is to count all citizens and legal residents. With the Bureau under the political control of the White House, illegal aliens will be included in the count in an effort to retain the apportionment of congressional seats in areas favorable to the majority party.

Second Amendment

Mr. Obama completed a political questionnaire when he ran for the Illinois State Senate noting his opposition to the ownership of handguns. He was silent when asked about his position on the historic DC gun case which held that Americans have a constitutional right to own firearms notably a hand gun and that a total ban was unconstitutional. Only after the case was decided did he indicate his support for the decision. He dishonestly proffered the argument that he supports gun rights but opposes a criminal obtaining an AK-47. In 2005, then Senator Barack Obama voted in favor of legislation sponsored by Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) that would have banned nearly all rifle ammunition used for hunting and sport shooting. As an Illinois State Senator in 2004, Mr. Obama voted against legislation that protects citizens who use firearms in self-defense in their home or business in spite of local gun bans from prosecution. Here again, the Obama position is counter to that of most Americans.

Faith

During his inauguration, the President went out of his way to downplay the Christian influence on our culture. When delivering a speech at a Catholic University, he insisted that the Christian symbols be covered. He actually declared that America is one of the largest Muslim nations in the world (based on the number of Muslims residing in the U.S.) and went on to erroneously list Muslim influences on our culture yet he told an audience in Turkey, “We do not consider ourselves a Christian Nation.” The President's support of the so called "Hate Crimes" legislation showed in clear terms that he supports the view of Chai Feldblum that acceptance not tolerance trumps religious liberty. During congressional hearings, Attorney General Eric Holder acknowledged that a homosexual would be protected under the hate crimes law when a crime is motivated by hate but a pastor would not be protected when the crime is committed by a homosexual motivated by hatred of Christianity. Prior to the passage of this legislation, America relied on one of the most comprehensive hate crime statutes, the Civil Right Act of 1964.

While Barack Obama understands that words mean things, it is apparent that there is a disconnect from his speeches to his actions. The following quote under scores this view, "Secularists are wrong when they ask believers to leave their religion at the door before entering into the public square. Frederick Douglas, Abraham Lincoln, Williams Jennings Bryant, Dorothy Day, Martin Luther King - indeed, the majority of great reformers in American history - were not only motivated by faith, but repeatedly used religious language to argue for their cause. So to say that men and women should not inject their "personal morality" into public policy debates is a practical absurdity. Our law is by definition a codification of morality, much of it grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition."

The voice of the People

After one year in office, the President's poll numbers have fallen below 50%. With his radical philosophy in action, he has awakened the People who make this country work. From the janitor to the lawyer, Americans recognize that when Government takes control of our lives, there is no liberty, no prosperity only tyranny. The President has said, "[The] issues are never simple. One thing I’m proud of is that very rarely will you hear me simplify the issues." No Mr. President, we understand that there are simple truths. Your vision of America is contrary to the values of our founding;

"We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt.....I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them... A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have." Thomas Jefferson.

And from former presidents;

"The history of liberty is the history of the limitation of governmental power, not the increase of it. When we resist . . . concentration of power we are resisting the powers of death, because concentration of power is what always precedes the destruction of human liberties. " Woodrow Wilson.

"Ours was the first revolution in the history of mankind that truly reversed the course of government, and with three little words: 'We the people.' 'We the people' tell the government what to do, it doesn't tell us. 'We the people' are the driver, the government is the car. And we decide where it should go, and by what route, and how fast. Almost all the world's constitutions are documents in which governments tell the people what their privileges are. Our Constitution is a document in which 'We the people' tell the government what it is allowed to do. 'We the people' are free. This belief has been the underlying basis for everything I've tried to do these past eight years." President Ronald Reagan

The President would best be served by remembering his own words, "I always believe that ultimately, if people are paying attention, then we get good government and good leadership. And when we get lazy, as a democracy and civically start taking shortcuts, then it results in bad government and politics." Barack Obama ( MSNBC interview, Sep. 25, 2006). Mr. President, the People are paying attention. They understand that its not what you say or what's in your speeches, its how you actually govern. The power lies in the ballot box. Silent no more!!
