State Senate Candidate Craig Johnson Comes Out for Homosexual Marriage in special election set for February 6, 2007
Nassau County legislator Craig Johnson (D) who is running for the State Senate seat vacated by Mike Balboni has formally announced his support for a bill legalizing Homosexual marriage in New York State. The following quotes are from the January 17th edition of the NY Blade;
"Craig Johnson said he supports marriage equality and would vote for it if and when legislation is introduced."
“Any couple in a loving relationship should have the right to the benefits, and the burdens, of marriage,” Johnson said in a statement. “I think about the right to visit one’s partner in the hospital. I think about the kind of end-of-life decisions that are unfortunately thrust upon us. I think about the joy of celebrating a permanent commitment of love, trust and friendship. And, as a civil rights matter, as an issue of values, I don’t see how we can continue to deny those rights.”
Mr. Johnson who was endorsed previously by the radical homosexual group Empire Pride Agenda, voted for a proposed Domestic Partner registry last year before the Nassau County legislature. At that time, he denied that he supported homosexual marriage and claimed that the bill had nothing to do with homosexual marriage. The bill was ultimately defeated 10-8-1. Mr. Johnson is facing Nassau County Clerk and former Assemblywomen Maureen O'Connell who is running on the Republican line. The special election is set for February 6, 2007.

Nassau Legislator Dave Mejias and NYS Senator Nicholas Spano come out for Homosexual marriage.
As reported in this week's edition of the Herald Newspaper, Nassau County Legislator Dave Mejias (D) who represents Nassau's 14th LD has come out in support of homosexual marriage, noting his vote in support of a domestic partnership bill in the Nassau County legislature.
"Mejias says he believes gay marriage should be allowed, noting that he voted for Nassau's domestic partnership measure in the Legislature. "All Americans deserve the same rights," he says. And Mejias says he is pro-choice. King is pro-life." Herald Community Newspapers October 26, 2006.
The bill which would have provided spousal benefits to homosexual couples was defeated. Mr. Mejias is running as a candidate in the 3rd CD against incumbent Peter King (R). Congressman King has indicated that he supports marriage as the union of one man and one women and has voted in favor of the federal Defense of Marriage Act which was signed into law in 1996 by President Clinton.
New York State Senator Nick Spano (R) Westchester has endorsed homosexual marriage. "Civil unions are fine, but that doesn’t really answer the equality issue. I’m for marriage equality," NY Blade, October 23, 2006.
