Senator Clinton on Driver Licenses for Illegal Aliens

November 14, 2007

Senator Clinton now says, "As president, I will not support driver's licenses for undocumented people"....

The Senator made the following statement, "I support Governor Spitzer's decision today to withdraw his proposal. As president, I will not support driver's licenses for undocumented people and will press for comprehensive immigration reform that deals with all of the issues around illegal immigration including border security and fixing our broken system."

The Governor stated the following in his statement dropping his license plan, "In New York political forces quickly mobilized to prey on the public's worst fears; political opponents equated minimum wage-undocumented dishwashers with Osama bin Laden."

Unfortunately this just proves that the Governor's withdrawal of his license plan was purely political and done at the urging of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The Governor and the Senator just don't get it. The people do not support rewarding illegal behavior by giving illegal aliens driver licenses, using taxpayer funds to provide benefits to illegal aliens or amnesty.

Senator Clinton now says it "depends on the state" when giving licenses to illegal aliens.

During a CNN interview, Clinton stated the following, "It depends upon what state they're in. It depends upon what they think the risks are," Clinton said. "A governor of New York that has a lot of immigrants, many of whom we know are not there legally, has to worry about security. A governor of another state where that's not a problem doesn't." Senator Hillary Clinton supports Spitzer's License plan

Yesterday in Philadelphia during the Democrat Presidential debate at Drexel College, Senator Clinton indicated that the Spitzer plan "made a lot of sense" and that the Governor made a "honest effort to do it". She then attempted to explain that the governor had no choice due to the failure of Congress to pass "comprehensive immigration reform". A call to her Washington office today for clarification was met with a prepared statement which reiterated that the Governor had to act due to the government's failure to address "comprehensive immigration reform".

Later today, her campaign office issued the following statement , “Senator Clinton supports governors like Governor Spitzer who believe they need such a measure to deal with the crisis caused by this administration’s failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform".
