State Reviewing School Aid for New York Districts; Long Island Taxpayers Beware

The school funding formula referred to as Foundational Aid is being reviewed by a NY Senate panel which is seeking to find "equity" in how school aid is distributed. The core question is what is defined as equity? Reducing aid to Long island to provide more aid to other districts would drive up local school taxes and would exacerbate the existing tax crisis facing middle class families who live in Long Island. The Long Island Region meeting is scheduled for November 13th, 11am to 3pm at the Seaford Middle School, 3940 Sunset Ave, Seaford, NY. Click here for the story

Governor Cuomo and legislature blink on teacher eval disclosure

The law will allow parents to view only the evaluation of their child's current teacher and only by request.

Please call the NYS Legislature to support the Educational Tax Incentives Act!

The NYS legislature will return for a special session at the end of this month or in October. This bill  (S.3627-A/A.6432-A) would encourage public donations to public and private schools by granting partial tax credits for the donation. It would also grant tax credits to teachers (and parents who home school their children) for the purchase of classroom supplies and other material. For more information, click the link below. Call your legislator toll free at 1-800-525-2846.
