California voters pass constitutional amendment to ban homosexual marriage!

Earlier today, AP has confirmed that the voters of California have passed a constitutional amendment to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The margin was 52% to 48%. Constitutional amendments have also passed in  Florida and Arizona.

For the two propositions, we urge Nassau voters to vote yes on proposition 1 and no on proposition 2.

Prop 1 (Amendment to State Constitution): If passed, it would make it easier for disabled veterans to receive extra points on state civil service exams. It would eliminate the requirement that disabled vets receive disability payments to claim the additional points and instead only have their disability verified by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs to claim the credit.

 Results

YES   148,461
 NO      45,155

Prop 2 (Amendment to County Charter): If passed by the voters next week, Proposition No. 2 would make the County Assessor an appointed rather than an elected position. This would eliminate the County Assessor's independence from the other braches of government and would make the Assessor's office less accountable to the people. This is why we urge a No vote.

Results

YES    89,963
 NO    78,438

Activist Judges in Connecticut re-define marriage

From the Family Institute of Connecticut: The Connecticut Supreme Court has usurped the expressed will of the people--and even our state legislators--by undemocratically forcing same-sex "marriage" on Connecticut! Contact your state senator and state representative--and Governor Rell. Demand that they stand up to the Court and vote to protect marriage!

County Executive seeks 3.9% Property Tax Increase

This evening County Executive Tom Suozzi submitted his proposed budget which calls for a 3.9% tax increase. While the budget calls for the implementation of a modest amount of cost savings, there is no serious effort to avoid a property tax increase. As the County Executive serves as the chair of the state commission on property taxes and has acknowledged that local property taxes are crushing Nassau residents, his proposal to increase property taxes certainly calls into question his credibility. The Nassau County legislature will hold committee hearings on October 2nd and a general hearing on October 20th. Read more.....

Please call your county legislature at 516-571-6200 to oppose any property tax increase.
