June 18, 2008

Rockville Centre Library, 221 North Village Ave, Rockville Centre, NY

On June 18th, NYS Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli was our guest speaker. He discussed the current fiscal issues facing New York and his reform agenda.

Thomas P. DiNapoli was sworn in as the 54th Comptroller of the state of New York on February 7, 2007. As Chief Fiscal Officer for the State, he is responsible for managing and protecting the State pension fund, auditing the spending practices of all State agencies and local governments, reviewing the New York State and City budgets, reviewing and approving all State contracts, and administering the State Oil Spill Fund.

Since taking office, Mr. DiNapoli has instituted several reforms at the Comptroller’s office to ensure open and honest government. He has aggressively moved to end the practice of reporting private attorneys as school district employees in order to receive pension and medical benefits. He has been critical of excessive state spending and has called for capping the level of state debt. Operating in a bi-partisan manner, Tom DiNapoli has advocated for the taxpayer as an independent voice in Albany.

Details of the meeting will be updated shortly.
