March 25, 2010

Plainview-Bethpage Library, 999 Old Country Road, Plainview, NY

Steve Levy, Suffolk County Executive

The meeting minutes will be updated shortly

The meeting is co-sponsored by two of the largest TEA party groups on Long Island, the Conservative Society for Action (CSA) and the Nassau County TEA Party Patriots (we would like to recognize the Massapequa Tea Party, the Merrick Tea Party, Individuals United for Freedom and Nassau-Queens County 912 Project).

Steve Levy is a graduate of Sachem High School, Stony Brook University (Magna Cum Laude), and St. John's University Law School. In 1985, Steve Levy was elected to the Suffolk County Legislature at age 26 -- the beginning of a 15-year tenure as a member of that body. During this time he served as Chairman of the Ways & Means Committee and as Deputy Presiding Officer. He left the Suffolk Legislature after 2000, when he was elected a member of the New York State Assembly. In November 2003, Steve Levy was elected as Suffolk County's seventh County Executive. In 2007, he was cross endorsed by both major parties and was re-elected with 96 percent of the vote.

Upon taking office as County Executive, Steve Levy pulled the county out of a $238 million projected deficit, crafting the largest budget restructuring plan in the county's history and cut his own salary. Steve Levy has presented six consecutive budgets, each with a General Fund tax freeze or tax cut—including three budgets with lower spending than the previous year's budget. Under his leadership, the county has had six bond rating upgrades. Recognized for providing efficient government, Suffolk County has received fifty Innovation Awards by the National Association of Counties. Under his leadership, crime has been cut by 20% and he has led on the issue of affordable housing by building hundreds of affordable homes.

Steve Levy will address the following topics; the fiscal crisis facing Albany and America, his philosophy on the role of government, and his reform agenda.

The Nassau County Civic Association, Inc. does not support or endorse candidates for political office.

The Conservative Society for Action and Nassau County TEA Party Patriots have made no endorsement in the Governor's race and their involvement should not be construed as an endorsement.

General meeting sees overflow crowd

This past Tuesday, March 23rd, more then 250 people filled the auditorium of the Plainview-Bethpage Library to hear Steve Levy and our other guest speakers. Unfortunately due to maximum occupancy rules, some had to be turned away which we regret. The meeting was extremely successful. We would like to thank all those who attended and especially those who assisted in organizing this meeting. In particular we like to single out Pat Friedman and Tony Giammarino for their efforts.
