Fight Higher Taxes

Vote NO on proposal 1 & 2

Proposal #1: Both Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno have spearheaded this so called reform through the legislature and placed it on the ballot. It is actually a constitutional change. It would allow the dysfunctional state legislature to exclude the Governor in the budgetary process. This would allow for no oversight by the executive branch and would concentrate power in the legislative branch. If the legislature fails to pass a timely budget, a contingency budget or the prior years budget would go into effect. The legislature will be free to increase spending and taxes with impunity. Furthermore, members of the legislature would no longer have their pay withheld until they enact a budget. Save your money, VOTE NO!

Proposal #2: This would allow authorization for additional state debt for transit projects and roads to the tune of $2.9 billion. New York state has the highest debt in the nation which has tripled in the last 25 years. Debt is not free. It cost money to borrow and to service the debt. If every citizen is constrained by their own fiscal reality, why should the state continue spending without regard to your ability as a taxpayer to repay the debt. VOTE NO!

While the Town of Hempstead finally froze taxes for next year, its only half a glass. The current budget calls for  additional Town Debt in the form of a bond for more than $115 million dollars. Lets try spending cuts to fund highway reconstruction. Again, debt has to be repaid and does not come cheap. What ever happened to tax cuts? Call the town's help line at 489-5000 and express your opposition to additional debt.

On Sunday night, October 30th, the Nassau Legislature gave Nassau Taxpayers a Halloween Tax and Fright budget for higher spending. Its called PORK. The cost to Nassau Homeowners is clear, higher property taxes. What happened to fiscal restrain? We need tax cuts not spending increases. Fight back on the budget... Tell NIFA to reject it!! comments@nifa.state.ny.us
