More for New York Criminals

NY Progressives love for criminals

In another effort to reward criminals, the New York Legislature is considering several bills to help convicted criminals. One bill requires that any inmate who is 55 years or older who has served at least fifteen years of their sentence will become eligible for Parole regardless of the crime they were convicted of. That would include homicide, rape, robbery and any other violent crime. Another change would change the standard of parole from looking at the nature of the crime to focusing on the person's rehabilitation while in prison. The legislature is also considering a bill to eliminate life sentences which would include certain homicides. The basis upon which New York repealed it's death penalty was due to the substitution of life sentences versus the death penalty for certain homicides.

This is only the start of the insanity to reward criminals and disregard the right of New Yorkers to be safe. Previously the NY Legislature amended the misdemeanor statute which defined a misdemeanor as any crime that carries a potential sentence of incarceration for more than 15 days but no more than 365 days. The stature now reads no more than "364 days". The move was intended to shield criminal illegal aliens from deportation for such crimes as DWI, assault, prostitution. This change does not take into consideration the initial charges which may have included felonies which were later plead down to misdemeanors. The Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez even announced his plan to down-grade criminal charges against criminal illegal aliens so they can avoid deportation. No such accommodation has been provided to citizens or legal residents.

The recent action by the Department of Homeland Security to suspend the airport Trusted Travel programs for New York residents was a direct result of the new Green Light Law which granted driver licenses to illegal aliens. The law disregards the findings of the 911 Commission report which found that the nineteen Saudi foreign nationals who planned the 911 attacks were able to carry out the terrorist attack due to access to driver licenses which were later used to obtain further identity documents and the ability to enroll in flight school in preparation of the attack. New York's new law goes beyond other state laws that grant driver licenses to illegal aliens in that it refuses federal authorities access to the state's DMV records. Federal authorities use the DMV for law enforcement purposes, to verify the title of vehicles being shipped overseas and to verify the identity of those in the Trusted Travel programs.

While immigration enforcement is the purview of the federal government, there is a bill that would prevent Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) officers from arresting illegal aliens inside New York courts or on their way to court houses. Based on Federal preemption, any state law superseding federal law would be null and void and yet your state legislators are working hard to help criminals who happen to be illegal aliens.

Even when the level of insanity could not reach new heights, a bill has been introduced in the Senate that would allow incarcerated convicted felons to vote while in prison in the elections where they resided at the time of their arrest. A bill which was passed by the New York State Senate allows convicted felons to serve on juries. There is also a move to legalize sex work often referred to as prostitution and eliminate the crime of public loitering which is used to combat prostitution. It is well established that prostitution has a corrosive effect on society. The sex trade also involves sex trafficking, violence and drugs including other forms of criminality. It also entraps young women in life of exploitation, violence and addiction. Therefore there is absolutely no benefit or compelling interest to legalize prostitution.

A simple question; why is our Governor and the NY Legislature working so hard to assist criminals and promote behavior that tears at the fabric of our society? The answer is straight forward; they have no regard for the hardworking People of New York. Even worse, they live in a delusional bubble that will eventually burst with pain, death and more victims of their insanity. So much for progressivism.
