Consolidation Must Equal Tax Reduction

The Nassau County Civic Association, Inc supports the consolidation of special taxing districts contingent upon efficiency and when it leads to a reduction of local taxes. It's simply common sense to reduce the level of government to what the People can afford. Sanitation services can be consolidated within the three towns, however this may be problematic for water districts which are privately owned. The issue is not local control but rather the ability to exercise local control within a reasonable legislative mechanism in order for the governed to decide whether they want to maintain additional layers of government or reduce government. When common sense is applied, local districts will enjoy the support of the governed if and only if the districts can show that the services they provide are the most  efficient at the cheapest cost to the taxpayer.

Residents for Efficient Special Districts is an excellent resource for information on consolidation.
